How to Clear Your Instagram Search History

Go to Settings → Your activity → Recent searches and tap Clear all. The list empties immediately — but suggested accounts keep appearing, because they are generated from your wider activity rather than from the search list you just deleted.

Nobody but you ever sees this list. The reason people clear it is the one that matters in practice: whoever picks up your unlocked phone.

How do you clear it?

Then the search bar is the weakest point in your account, and clearing it after the fact is the slow way to handle that. Two habits work better. Log out of the account on any device you share, since a logged-in session gives full access to DMs, saved posts and activity regardless of your search list. And use a browser in private mode — or a logged-out view — for anything you would rather not have autocompleted the next time someone types a letter into that field.
