To see photos someone is tagged in, open their profile, scroll past the bio, and tap the right-hand tab marked with a person outline. That tab holds every post where another account tagged them and the tag survived their approval. On a public profile anyone can read it, logged in or not.
Where is the tagged photos tab on a profile?
The tagged tab is the last icon in the row above the grid — a small outline of a person in a frame. Profiles show 2 or 3 tabs: the grid, Reels, and tagged. Tapping the person icon switches the grid to posts made by other people that name this account, newest first.

Can you see tagged photos on a private account?
No. A private profile hides the tagged tab from everyone except approved followers, exactly like the grid. Even the tab icon is gone for non-followers, so there is no count to read. The one thing a private profile still leaks to strangers is the mutual-followers line and the bio.

Why does someone's tagged tab look empty?
3 different situations produce an empty tab, and they look identical from outside:

How do you keep tagged photos off your own profile?
Turn on Manually approve tags before you need it. In Settings and privacy, scroll to how others can interact with you and open Tags and mentions, then switch on Manually approve tags. From that moment every tag arrives as a request, and nothing reaches your profile until you approve it.
Manual approval is not retroactive. Tags accepted before you flipped the switch stay where they are. Clear that backlog by hand: open the tagged tab, tap a post, then choose Remove me from post. Removing yourself also deletes the link back to your account from that post.
What do tagged photos show that the grid does not?
Context the account never chose. A grid is a portfolio: selected, filtered, often posted months after the fact. The tagged tab is other people's cameras — the same person at a wedding, in a work photo, at a bar in a city they never mention in the bio. For anyone verifying an identity, 5 tagged posts usually beat 50 grid posts.
Timing helps too. Tagged posts carry the poster's date, not the profile owner's, so a tagged photo from March 2025 places the person somewhere at a time their own feed skips. Does the person know you browsed their tagged photos?
